Situated at the heart of one of Europe’s most vibrant cities, this hotel offers the perfect blend of contemporary design, world-class amenities, and stunning Mediterranean views. Arriving at W Barcelona.
From the moment we arrived at W Barcelona, the blend of architectural elegance and seaside beauty left us speechless. The iconic sail-shaped building that houses the hotel stands as a symbol of the city’s modernity. What struck us right away was the hotel staff; they were young, trendy, and exuded an air of sophistication, perfectly aligning with the hotel’s contemporary vibe.
The room of dreams.
After a warm and hospitable check-in experience, we were led to our room, and here’s where we had a slight mishap. We thought we had booked one of their signature Wonderful Guest King Rooms with Marina View, however, it turned out in the excitement of the booking process, I had accidentally selected the twin room version (oops!) However, this minor hiccup turned into a pleasant surprise as we discovered that the twin room provided us with significantly more space to move around comfortably, plus two large double beds.
In our room, we were in for a delightful surprise with some high-tech touches. The window blinds were a breeze to use – just a quick button press, and we could easily adjust the natural light, all while soaking in the incredible views. We got lucky with a room on one of the highest floors, treating us to a stunning, panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea and the harbour below.
But that’s not all! Our room was well-prepared with a fully equipped mini bar, a fantastic bathroom featuring a double sink and a luxurious rainfall shower, and they even provided us with plush robes, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. And if that’s not enough, we discovered they also offer 24-hour room service with a wide array of options, making it even more convenient for guests.
Exploring the city.
This city break was our second visit to Barcelona, and I must admit that our previous experience left us with mixed feelings about the city. On our initial trip, we stayed in an Airbnb just off Las Ramblas, a vibrant spot during the day that took a somewhat sketchy turn at night. Strolling around the area after dark left us feeling a little bit on edge. However, our perspective on the city did a complete 180 when we landed at W Barcelona.
The neighbourhood where W Barcelona was located had a completely different vibe – it felt safe, modern, and well-maintained. While we’re always cautious when traveling, the beachfront promenade was a lively and secure spot for evening walks. This change was a welcome departure from the edgy atmosphere we’d experienced on our previous visit. It undoubtedly added a positive twist to our Barcelona adventure, making it a breeze to explore the nearby attractions with a newfound sense of ease and enjoyment.
We’re big fans of exploring the city on foot, and if you’re up for getting some steps in, you’ll discover that most of the major attractions and the delightful Gothic Quarter are just a leisurely walk away. We even ventured on foot to the iconic Parc Guell, a masterpiece designed by Gaudi himself. However, I should mention, it’s not for the faint of heart, as it’s quite a trek from the hotel, taking a couple of hours and involving some challenging uphill sections.
Don’t worry, if strolling around isn’t your style though! The attentive concierge team were always on standby to call a taxi to pick us up right at the hotel’s doorstep, ready to take us wherever we wanted to go for the day!
Exploring the hotel.
W Barcelona is more than just a place to lay your head; it’s an experience in itself. The hotel boasts a state-of-the-art fitness centre, a luxurious spa, and two gorgeous swimming pools. The WET Deck, with its chic sun loungers, chilled house beats provided by in-house DJ’s, and breath-taking sea views, swiftly became our ultimate relaxation haven.
One minor aspect worth mentioning is that the pool and bar areas welcomed outside guests during the late afternoon, which, to be fair, added a lively dynamic to the atmosphere. However, at times, it did take on a somewhat energetic vibe and switched to more of a party feel. This could be a plus or a minus, depending on your personal preference, as it certainly brought some life to the scene.
W Barcelona’s culinary delights.
One of the many reasons we fell in love with W Barcelona was its exceptional dining offerings. The hotel boasts a diverse range of restaurants and bars, each a culinary gem in its own right. Whether you’re in the mood for Mediterranean delicacies, inventive cocktails, or international flavours, the hotel has it all.
FIRE Grill – As one of the city’s hottest insider spots, FIRE is where the glamour meets socialization. It’s the ideal place to connect, relish in real cuisine, and immerse yourself in the vibrant W Barcelona buzz.
An absolute must-try! The tenderloin steak paired with the smoked mashed potatoes was simply irresistible. We highly recommend it without a doubt!
NOXE – Head up to the 26th floor and indulge in a new experiential journey at NOXE. A fine-dining Japanese restaurant, cocktail bar and nightclub high above Barcelona.
SALT Restaurant and Beach Club – This spot is perfect for mingling over innovative Mediterranean Tapas and beautifully paired cocktails, offering shared plates and tantalizing guilty pleasures.
COYA – As you step inside, you are instantly transported into a world where traditional Peruvian flavors blend seamlessly with contemporary design, creating a captivating and sensory dining experience.
WET Deck – The terrace to enjoy cocktails & bites poolside whilst overlooking the Mediterranean.

In the end, our city break at W Barcelona was everything we had hoped for and more. The hotel seamlessly combines luxury and style with the charm of Barcelona. The views of the Mediterranean Sea were an absolute dream, and the culinary experiences left us craving more. It’s essential to highlight that W Barcelona is particularly well-suited for adults and couples who are seeking a lively, vibrant experience.
