As part of my recent transformation from boutique hotel evangelism to chain whore, and also my journey to entirely losing my mind, may I present you to a Marriott. Well, it was one before Rosewood took over, closed it down for a few years and gave it a major refurb. Rosewood Schloss Fuschl is now set to open on July 1st.
Nestled on the scenic shores of Lake Fuschl, Rosewood Schloss Fuschl is set within a 15th-century castle. Originally serving as a grand hunting lodge and summer residence for the Archbishop of Salzburg, the alpine retreat was transformed into a hotel in the 1950s. Salzburg is where Mozart is from – the second most famous Austrian, after that fella, you know the guy, who was always pointing at the sky.
Yes, the property really looks something special, but it’s the location I’m drawn to. I’m feeling Park Hotel Vitznau vibes with that lakeside location and its grand, historic feel. It’s surrounded by landscapes of mountains and forests and in close proximity to UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Salzburg and Hallstatt.
After a significant renovation by Rosewood, the hotel now offers 98 rooms, including 46 suites and lakefront chalets, many with impressive views of the lake and mountains. The castle is now rejuvenated to provide a contemporary experience while preserving its historical grandeur. It features things which have been described as “restaurants” and “lounges”, which sound incredibly exotic. There’s also an Asaya wellness centre, complete with extensive spa treatments, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and a fitness centre. It looks like a cool blend between fairy-tale architecture with a modern twist. Everything these days is a twist, so I may as well join in with that terrible phrasing.
I’m meeting with their team in a few weeks and hope to stay in September, combining it with their other Austrian property, Rosewood Vienna.
