It’s official: we’re headed straight into a wet, cold winter – and when temperatures drop, you’ll need a sturdy pair of boots to see you through the inclement months. With summer’s loafers and boat shoes safely tucked away, a well-crafted pair of winter boots will be your best friend for city commutes and weekend treks in the country alike. Worried about functional shoes cramping your style? For the style-forward gent, Crockett & Jones’ new AW24 collection delivers water-resistance, warmth and grip alongside heaps of good looks.
The Northampton-based shoemaker has prided itself on blending modern design with traditional quality craftsmanship for more than 140 years – and the new AW24 collection is no different. Drawing inspiration from the rugged landscapes, tranquil atmosphere and fresh air of the Scottish countryside, Crockett & Jones has created a range of casual yet refined footwear that’ll look great in the office and still prove themselves more than worthy should you find yourself hiking through the stunning vistas overlooking the Firth of Clyde or the Isle of Arran.
So, what’s on offer? Well, first up, there’s the brand-new Last 394. With everyday life becoming less formal, this playful silhouette is a Crockett & Jones icon in the making. The new last features an asymmetric forepart with a well-fitted heel for added comfort and finds form in the slick new Donegal Derby boot. Featuring only three speed hooks, the shortened height lends this design a casual touch, while a Ridgeway sole offers traction and vintage flair.
In a similar vein, the heritage shoemaker has also developed a new material for the season: Hatch Grain Hide. Originating from Portuguese or Spanish bulls, this oily pull-up leather is re-tanned with vegetable extracts, resulting in an aged appearance without compromising on softness, durability or longevity. The sophisticated material is seen across Crockett & Jones icons, such as its apron Derby shoe, Denver, and the full brogue Derby boot, Cardigan.
Not one to rest on its laurels, Crockett & Jones has also reworked a few of its best-sellers for AW24. The high-leg, storm-welted Islay boot, for example, is redesigned with green rough-out suede. The fully waterproof wax-impregnated suede gets more comfortable with wear and is destined for exploring the great outdoors. Similarly, Cardigan is rendered in a neutral-hued rough-out and is the perfect refined companion for your countryside adventures.
On the hunt for a soft boot that’s at home at aprés ski as it is at The Savoy? Consider Crockett & Jones’ line-up of lightweight low-cut boots. Made with waterproof suede with a lightweight rubber sole, whether you pick Kelso, a lace-up Derby boot, Elgin, a low-cut Chelsea boot or the Chepstow, a three eyelet chukka boot, your feet will thank you for it.
