If you’ve ever dreamt of visiting Amsterdam, INNSiDE by Meliá is the perfect place for a blend of modern style and Dutch authenticity. Located in the lively financial district, it’s just a short Metro ride away from the bustling city centre.
Arriving in Amsterdam
Our journey began after an early flight landed us at Schiphol Airport. Luckily, there’s a direct train to Zuid, which is very close to the hotel. The staff at INNSiDE by Meliá welcomed us with smiles and efficient service. Checking in was easy, and even though our rooms weren’t ready, they took care of our bags, allowing us to start our Amsterdam adventure.
A Prime Location
As we mentioned earlier, the hotel sits right in the middle of the financial district, and the atmosphere there is not only upscale but felt very safe to walk around during the day or evening. The daily flow of commuters going about their business adds a vibrant pulse to the area. Hop on the Metro, and in a quick 9-minute ride, you’ll find yourself in the heart of Central Amsterdam, surrounded by all its iconic gems. Strolling along the charming canals, exploring bustling markets, and visiting world-famous museums, it’s like having the entire city within arm’s reach.
Rooms
At 3 pm, we got the green light to check into our room. We had chosen one of the signature INNSiDE rooms, located between the 3rd and 11th floors. They offer great views through floor-to-ceiling windows. The room had a spacious king-size bed or two singles, a desk, a large shower with shampoo and shower gel provided, a complimentary minibar with soft drinks, and a smart TV with Chromecast for entertainment.
We had a small hiccup trying to use Chromecast the first night. We asked for some help, but it seemed like the staff weren’t too eager to assist, which left us a bit let down. However, we put our own tech skills into action the next day, and finally managed to figure it out for ourselves. A tip: make sure you’re connected to the hotel’s Wi-Fi to use this service.
The rooms are super clean and modern but have a more chic straightforward vibe than a ultra luxury one. You could tell this was a new hotel by the sterile scent of the bedding, which wasn’t a bad thing, just something that we were aware of. Housekeeping was on point, with daily service, but sometimes, our room wasn’t spruced up until late in the afternoon, which was a bit slower than what we’re used to.
Amenities
The hotel offers some great amenities which include; 24-hour reception, a 24-hour gym, bike rental, dry cleaning, free Wi-Fi, remote working facilities, and meeting room spaces.
The hotel has two restaurant and bar spaces.
“Hasta La Vista Baby!” is perched up on the 19th floor, offering views that’ll leave you in awe. The atmosphere is a delightful fusion of Spanish style and the epitome of Hollywood glamour, all wrapped up in a funky disco vibe. On our first night, luck was on our side as we secured a table for cocktails. The drinks were absolutely delightful, but the service was a bit on the slower side, hinting that the bar might still be ironing out the kinks.
Unfortunately, our second visit didn’t go as smoothly – they claimed to be too busy to accommodate us, even though empty tables were around. To steer clear of any potential let downs like we encountered, it’s a smart move to make a reservation in advance if you’re planning a weekend visit.
Tierra Restaurant and the Grab & Go Bar in the lobby offer classic and modern Spanish cuisine. Breakfast is also served at the Tierra Restaurant, but is not included in the room rate and costs an additional 22 euros per person. The food is very tasty, but the selection is limited, and we had to wait 15 minutes for eggs and bacon to be replenished. Given the price, we found better breakfast options nearby.
Check out.
One thing we really loved about this hotel was their checkout time – they let guests stay until 12 PM, which was a huge plus. It made us feel less rushed and they were also happy to look after our bags, so we could keep exploring during the last few hours before our flight
Our final thoughts on INNSiDE by Melia – Amsterdam.
Our INNSiDE by Meliá experience was largely positive, providing a stylish and comfortable hub for our Amsterdam city break. The few issues we encountered might be attributed to the hotel’s recent opening, and we believe these will get sorted out as they settle into their groove.
The hotel’s location is superb, safe, and conveniently close to key attractions. While there’s room for improvement, it doesn’t overshadow the hotel’s many strengths. We left with great memories and a longing to return for more Amsterdam exploration.
